Most systems (including GroupWise) may be intermittently offline during this period. However, web access, the DePauw website and e-Services should not be affected.
Please contact the HelpDesk (765-658-4294) if you have any questions.

The Public Safety Office is investigating three incidents of a potential email scam. These requests are coming to DePauw email accounts and are very similar to other email scams they have seen and investigated in the past.
In these recent incidents, students are receiving unsolicited e-mails from “janey.2040″ at a Yahoo account. “Janey” is allegedly Jane Green, an Artist, Archaeologist and Manager of Dulwich Picture Gallery in London.
“Janey” is requesting that they receive money orders, cash them into their accounts and keep a portion of the money as payment. The email tells them where to send the remaining funds. The scam is that the money orders are not valid and after the bank attempts to process them, the money has already been sent and the students would owe the bank the money.
These emails, and all others like them, are attempts to gain personal information and commit theft through deception. Please do not respond to any email requesting personal information. Please refer to Crime Prevention resource webpage at http://www.depauw.edu/student/safety/cri…
Many people received these emails. If you replied to these solicitations and/or have received money orders, please contact the Public Safety Office, 765-658-4261.

Information Services does not yet provide support for Mac OS X v10.6. We recommend that you do not upgrade to Snow Leopard until later in the year.
Our research has shown that the Novell Netware network does not currently support Mac OS X v10.6 and the following network applications will NOT work:
* The Groupwise email client
* Printing to departmental or public networked printers
* Using aliases to access network drives (P:, I: and U:)
* Groupwise messenger
What’s the timeline?
According to Novell’s support timeline, updates that will make Netware compliant with Snow Leopard will be available sometime in mid-Fall. After those are available and we have confirmed that OS X v10.6 works on our network, we will notify the campus and begin providing support for it at that point.
Once we are prepared to support Snow Leopard, our campus license will allow us to install it on any University-owned computer that meets the minimum system requirements noted by Apple (http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html.) Students can purchase the upgrade directly from the Apple Web site.
What if your new computer came pre-installed with Snow Leopard?
If your new computer came already installed with Snow Leopard or you have already upgraded to Snow Leopard, following are alternative methods for using some of the network applications that are not compliant:
* DePauw e-Mail –Use http://tigermail.depauw.edu
* Accessing network drives (P:, I:, U:) – Use http://netstorage.depauw.edu
* Printing to networked printers – Email the document to yourself, then use a public lab computer to print it

A Novell context change for faculty and staff members occured on October 20th.
- If your Novell context was username.faculty.depauw, it is now username.faculty.user.depauw
- If your Novell context was username.staff.depauw, it is now username.staff.user.depauw.
In general, all network services except FTP now require only the username to be entered (not the full context).
GroupWise Instant Messenger consideration:
We have discovered that since this change was made, some people may need to delete and re-add previous GroupWise Instant Messenger contacts to re-connect in the new context.
Why the change?
This change will improve our ability to manage computer account security as well as facilitate our eventual migration off of the Novell Netware platform.
What do I need to do?
If you are running Windows XP:
Your Novell Netware Windows client software needs to be running the latest version in order to accommodate this change. If you’re experiencing problems logging into Novell, you will need to ensure you’re running this newest version.
The upgrade process is fairly simple and should only take about 5 minutes to complete. Follow this link, http://www.depauw.edu/it/helpdesk/novellpcguide.asp to download and install the new software.
If you are using a Macintosh:
If you have not saved your current username, including the “old” context, into your Keychain, you should not have to change anything.
If you experience problems connecting to your network drives then you will need to clear out your keychain. Click here ( http://www.depauw.edu/it/helpdesk/mac/keychain.asp) for brief instructions on how to do this.
If you’d like assistance, or have questions about the change
Contact the Help Desk: helpdesk@depauw.edu or (765) 658-4294.
