Update on Campus Voicemail: Outage Continues, Uptime unknown – Use Google Voice as alternative

January 26th, 2012 by Carol L. Smith

After much analysis, we have found that the campus voicemail system cannot be repaired. We are in the process of arranging a replacement as quickly as possible, but it will take a week or longer to bring a new voicemail system online.

In the meantime, you can use Google Voice as an alternative. It acts as a ‘voicemail service’ to collect messages left by callers that you can listen to by logging into your DePauw Google account online.

To set up Google Voice as your voicemail:

Step-by-step instructions to do this are posted at  Use Google Voice as your voicemail.

It’s a simple 3-step process:

  1. Set up a local phone number in your DePauw Google account. These are provided by Google and often (though not always) in the 765-276-xxxx range, which is a local Greencastle call.
  2. Forward your office phone to “forward on non-answer or busy” to the phone number you just created.
  3. Finalize your Google Voice settings *** THIS IS AN IMPORTANT STEP, so don’t skip it!

If you have questions:

Contact Dave Diedriech (765-658-6442 or ddiedriech@depauw.edu)
or
Visit the FITS Center located on the lower level of Roy O. West Library.

Campus Voicemail is still offline. Use your DePauw Google Voice voicemail instead.

January 24th, 2012 by Carol L. Smith

Campus voicemail is still not working and will not likely be online for some time (http://helpdesk.wordpress.depauw.edu/?p=1067).

As an alternative in the interim, you can set up Google Voice in your DePauw Google account as an alternative to voicemail by creating a Google Voice number and forwarding your office phone to it.

For step-by-step instructions to set up Google Voice as your email:

If you have questions, contact Dave Diedriech (765-658-6442or ddiedriech@depauw.edu) or visit the FITS Center in the lower level of Roy O. West Library.

Microsoft Office 2010/2011 is still Available at HelpDesk

October 31st, 2011 by Lynda S. LaRoche

Students: The newest version of Microsoft Office is available to students who have purchased either the Windows or Mac version of the DePauw Software Bundle.  By completing the Microsoft Office Upgrade Request form, you are authorizing a one-time fee of $9 to be charged to your student account, which covers the cost of making this upgrade available to you.  You will need to use your “@depauw.edu” account to complete the form.  Please allow up to 2 weeks for your upgrade package to be delivered to your U.B. mailbox.

NOTE: If you purchased the DePauw Software Bundle this Fall (2011), you already have the latest version and do not need to complete this form.

Faculty and Staff: The newest version of Microsoft Office will be available for faculty and staff home use beginning October 3.  To pick-up a copy of the upgrade package, you will need to visit the HelpDesk (located on the lower level of the Union Building) and complete a form for tracking purposes.  Please remember to bring your DePauw ID (OneCard) with you for identification purposes.
